Day after ‘assault’, Jind bank employees keep branch shut
ROHTAK: A day after employees of an Oriental Bank of Commerce branch were taken hostage by angry villagers in Dhanauri village of Jind’s Narwana town, the bank decided to keep its branch shut on Saturday. Sources in the bank said they have also written to their senior officials seeking security before reopening the branch.
The villagers had accused the branch manager disbursing cash only to people known to him. The entire staff was not allowed to leave the premises after work on Friday. RD Ranga, a bank official who was visiting from Punjab and was leaving with ₹24,000, was allegedly assaulted by the villagers. He said he has lodged a police complaint.
Ranga also alleged cops took him to the police station on Friday night and seized his cash, identity card and motorcycle keys, but took no action against villagers. “They only returned my belongings on Saturday,” he said. The police, maintaining that no such assault happened, have neither registered an FIR nor acknowledged that they received any complaint from the bank.
IN ROHTAK, CROWD BREAKS BANK’S DOOR
Agitated crowd waiting outside the State Bank of India branch located at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences broke the glass entrance door to enter the premises. A security guard and a female bank official were injured.
