People who make us believe in fairy angels

- Preeti Parashar ■vepreeti@gmail.com

I WILL PUT PARENTS ON THE TOP OF THE LIST OF FAIRY ANGELS AS THEY ARE ALWAYS THERE FOR THEIR CHILDREN NO MATTER WHAT; THEY CARE UNENDINGLY AND LOVE UNBOUNDEDLY AND ARE LOOKED UP TO IN MOMENTS OF DESPAIR

Yes, I do believe in fairy angels! And I am sure some of you do too. Fairy angels exist not only in fairy tales and kids’ story books or in our dreams, but unknowingly they light up our lives in various ways by their sheer presence, their blessings and prayers. They subsist in various forms and numerous roles. Sometimes we may not even realise their existence amongst us, yet they leave our lives elevated and our beings transformed. Someone might just foray into our mundane lives to spread luminescence and change the way we look at life and at ourselves!

I would put parents on the top of the list of fairy angels. They are always there for their children no matter what. They care unendingly and love unboundedly. They have surely been sent by God to be looked up to in moments of despair and when we are at crossroads. Parents guide us, soothe us and suggest the right path to be treaded by us. It’s another matter that sometimes we tend to take them for granted and find their decisions unacceptable. When we grow up and make transition into the role of being parents ourselves, it is only then that we realise the importance of this hard task. “Playing fairy angels to the kids is an onerous task and there is a lot of effort needed to live up to their expectations,” feels a young parent.

Friends undoubtedly come next in the list. They do their bit effortlessly, dedicatedly and without any baggage of expectations. The friends we make in our adolescence and teenage years are the ones that stay glued to us in good times as well as in adversities. They help us through heartbreaks, encourage us to follow our dreams and readily become equal partners in crime when it comes to absorbing the wrath of elders for wrongdoings! They listen to our side of the story and help us emerge from the silence when we want to immure ourselves! One of my close friends says, “Friends are saviours and they come forward to help without even being asked to do so. They truly are angels.”

The same is the case with siblings. The elder one always tends to be protective and possessive about the younger one, even though pretending not to care! The younger child’s tantrums are often tolerated by the elder one, demands are fulfilled and a lot of pampering happens!

Such fairy angels silently work towards the betterment of our lives.

This is true for not only the people close to us but we can also be fairy angels to anyone who is in need. Feeding the poor, providing basic necessities to the downtrodden, assisting differently abled persons, helping a street animal or simply bringing a smile to the faces of people in agony — these are a few of the endless things through which we can contribute our bit.

This quote sums it all up, “Angels exist in our lives every day, but unless we remember to listen to them, we are not aware of their presence”. (The writer is a Chandigarh-based communication professional)
