ACCUSED IS LOCAL CONG LEADER IN BIHAR; FACILITATE­D 17 CANDIDATES DURING PUNJAB IRRIGATION DEPT RECRUITMEN­T: VB

: Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday arrested the alleged kingpin of a Biharbased gang involved in leaking question papers of entrance tests for various government jobs across the country.

Accused Kuresh Kumar Diwedi, 40, who is allegedly a local Congress leader in Bihar’s Arwal district, was produced in an SAS Nagar court, which sent him to a day’s remand.

Besides leaking recruitmen­t exam papers in Delhi and Telangana, Diwedi facilitate­d 17 candidates for 100 posts of sub-divisional engineer (SDE) in the Punjab irrigation department, said sources. The examinatio­n was conducted by the Thapar University, Patiala, on October 16, 2016. The accused allegedly kept the candidate’s original documents as security, to be returned on payment of ₹25 lakh after selection.

“We have investigat­ed the accused. He is one of the major kingpins of the recruitmen­t paper leaks held in other states, like Delhi, Haryana and Telangana. Other conduits are on the run. We are trying to nab them as well,” said VB additional inspector general (AIJ) Surjeet Singh.VB officials said the gang charged anything between ₹10 lakh and ₹25 lakh per candidate. They allegedly eyed around 25 candidates in order to earn at least ₹2 crore per examinatio­n paper. HTC
