AMARINDER MAY CHANGE SIDHU’S PORTFOLIO
WILL ACT IF THERE IS CONFLICT OF INTEREST, SAYS PUNJAB CM
CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR: Reacting to the controversy over Punjab local bodies, tourism and cultural affairs minister Navjot Singh Sidhu’s participation in “The Kapil Sharma Show”, Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said he personally had no objection to Sidhu’s continuing with television shows if it was constitutionally permissible.
Saying that he was personally not aware of the constitutional position in this regard, Amarinder said he would wait for the Punjab advocate general’s advice on the issue. Amarinder was answering to queries of mediapersons outside Parliament House in New Delhi after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Sidhu is a sensible and intelligent person and would have checked out his legal and Constitution position of working for TV shows after joining as a minister. But if Sidhu’s culture portfolio was found to be in conflict with his television work, it will be changed,” Amarinder said.
Meanwhile, Sidhu, who visited Amritsar for the first time after becoming a minister in the Amarinder cabinet, said nobody should have any issue if he was working elsewhere as long as it was not improper and didn’t involve illegal means. “Should I run bus service like Sukhbir or indulge in corruption to earn money? he questioned.
He said that if he was working four days in a month from 7pm to 6 am without affecting his responsibility as a minister, why anybody should be bothered?
“People who have made me victorious four times have no problem. Then what is the fuss all about,” said Sidhu, adding he has already left 75% of his TV assignments. “If I shoot for a TV show four days in a month and that too at night, I don’t think there should be a problem. What I do at nights should not be anybody’s concern,” the local bodies and tourism minister said. Sidhu also paid obeisance at the Golden Temple.
