FARIDABAD: Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are likely to be installed at railway stations across Haryana, especially on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Mathura route even as security has been tightened in local trains on this route. The step assumes significance in view of June 22 violent incident over seat inside a local train which claimed life of Junaid Khan of Khandawali village. “I have written to senior officials like divisional railway managers (DRMs) and zonal managers urging them to install CCTV cameras at railway stations across Haryana,” Government Railway Police (GRP) superintendent of police (SP) Kamal Deep Goyal said. “There are 220 railway stations in Haryana and I am hopeful that authorities will take action on my request in view of the latest incident,” he said. Sources said it was most likely that railway authorities use the Nirbhaya fund for installation of CCTV cameras. “The process may get complete by 2018,” an official said. The GRP had got to Naresh Kumar, the main accused in the Junaid death case, through a private CCTV camera near the Asaoti railway station. It had deployed police person- nel in some local trains between New Delhi and Mathura. In some local trains, four personnel have been deployed but in the Mathura-Delhi-Ghaziabad EMU, there are nine cops — five from the railway protection force and four from GRP. “The security personnel have been deployed in six EMUs during morning and evening peak time”, GRP SHO Ajay Kumar said.
