NIA probe will expose separatists: J&K DGP
SRINAGAR: The probe that is being conducted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the alleged role of separatists in funding terror activities will reveal the truth about their role in “death and destruction” in the Valley, Jammu and Kashmir Police chief SP Vaid said on Wednesday.
He also appealed to politicians to refrain from making statements that could provoke the younger generation from taking up the gun.
“I am of the belief that the people of Kashmir have a right to know as to who is the merchant of their death and destruction. There is bloodshed, schools are being burnt, there is terrorism, so if anyone is indulging in deals on that, he must be brought to book,” the DGP said.
He was speaking to reporters at a function in Baramulla to reward and honour jawans and policemen who had contributed in anti-militancy operations in north Kashmir.
Asked whether more arrests were likely to be made by the investigating agency, Vaid said, “Only time will tell.” On the potential impact in Valley due to the arrests of separatists, including SAS Geelani’s son-inlaw Shabir Shah, for alleged terror funding, Vaid said people want peace and they that they reject the strike called on Tuesday by separatists to protest the NIA arrests.
Asked about reports of the armed forces tribunal suspending life imprisonment of five Army men in the Macchil fake encounter case, Vaid said, “I am not aware of it, I am hearing it from you. We will examine the case and see whatever legal course can be taken.”
