ITBP jawan gets 10 yrs jail for raping woman

MUZAFFARNA­GAR: A fast track court on Friday sentenced an ITBP jawan to 10 years imprisonme­nt for rap in ga woman on the pretext of marrying her in 2013. Judge Rajesh Bhardwaj also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on Sa chin Kumar.

In her complaint to the Sh am li Police Station, the 30- year-old woman had claimed that she had become friends with Kumar after a “missed call ”, government law- yer Qayyum Ali said.

She had alleged that she was raped on February 3, 5 and 7 in 2013 at different places and that the accused later refused to marry her, he said. The jawan is posted in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district and is from Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district.

MAN HELD FOR RAPING MENTALLY CHALLENGED GIRL

SRINAGAR: The Harwan police on Friday arrested a man for alleg- edly raping a mentally challenged girl in Harwan area here.

The family of the victim complained on Tuesday alleging that the she was raped but her mental condition does not allow her to properly narrate her ordeal, a police spokesman said.

“On this informatio­n, the medical examinatio­n of the girl was carried which confirmed rape,” he said. A case under sections 366 (abduction) and 376 (rape) of the Ranbir Penal Code was registered against the accused at Har- wan police station, the spokesman said.

A Special Investigat­ion Team (SIT) headed by SDPO Nehru Park Owais Rashid was formed which zeroed in on the accused arrested him from outskirts of the city.

He was identified as Yasir, a land broker in his early 40s,” the spokesman said.

Police said the accused confessed that he lured the girl and picked her up from Shalimar on Monday evening.
