J&K cop who died fighting ultras gets Shaurya Chakra
SRINAGAR: A JK police officer who was killed fighting militants in an operation in south Kashmir in March this year has been posthumously awarded the Sh au ry a Chakra.
Constable Manzoor Ahmed, a native of Salamabad area of Uri, was killed in an operation in Tral in which two militants were also gunneddown. “Great honour for JKP, constable Manzoor (posthumously) decorated with Shaurya Chakra for Tral operation, our salute,” said the Twitter handle of J&K Police. Media reports had said the 33-year-old Ahmed was soon to become a father. In the gunfight, Naik was killed in his second attempt to flush out militants holed up in a house after escaping bullets the first time. Constable Ahmed had reportedly come forward twice after senior officers decided to bring down the house and the explosives planted by him had finally brought down the house.

President Ram Nath Kovind approved 112 gallantry awards, including 17 Shaurya Chakras and 85 Sena Medals (Gallantry) on the eve of Independence Day.
