AMRITSAR: Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on Wednesday condemned the police action against 25 persons including SGPC member and 250 unknown persons in Gurdwara Chhota Ghallughara (Gurdaspur) episode.
The Akal Takht jathedar said, “Action may be taken against senior Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa for his alleged role in disrupting ‘akhand paath’ at the gurdwara.”
“As Bajwa is a ‘patit ‘Sikh (one who does not follow the norms of not cutting hair or trimming beard), he cannot be summoned at Akal Takht. But action may be taken against him and we will think in this regard,” said the jathedar while addressing a press conference here.
Reacting on the cases registered against the persons, he said, “Instead of taking action against those who commit sacrilege of Guru Grant h Sahib during ak hand pa at hand mis behave with Sikh sangat, the police booked the victims.”
“This is condemnable and the cases should be cancelled,” he said.
On selecting the gurdwara management, he said, “The sangat and other persons irrespective of their political affiliations should make efforts to ensure the management has members with good character.”
The incident took place after a senior functionary of the management committee was reportedly caught in an objectionable condition with a woman.
Speaking on the alleged con- version of the Sikkim gurdwara into a temple, he said the concerned SDM is responsible for what happened at the gurdwara. “I will take up the matter with Dalai Lama to resolve the issue,” he added.
The Akal Takht jathedar said that an 11-member advisory panel will be formed to deal with the complaints that the temporal seat receives.
This committee will give advisory to the Akal Takht, he added.
