Panel warns of action against lax officials
JALANDHAR: Punjab State Gau Sewa Commission chairman Keemti Bhagat said, the commission will soon summon the state government officers for their laxity towards stray cattle problem, on Wednesday.
He said this while presiding over a meeting with the district administration officers to review the stray cattle issue in the state. “It is unfortunate that some officers are showing callousness towards the issue,” she said.
He said that the commission has been vested with the powers to summon the erring officials.
Bhagat said that the commission was duty-bound to ensure the well being of cattle in the state.
He also asked the municipal corporation (MC) authorities to make concerted efforts for dealing with the stray cattle menace besides ensuring optimum utilisation of the funds collected through the cow cess.
He said that as per chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s directions the PSPCL released around ₹2 crore collected from the cow cess to different MCs.
Bhagat said that the MC Jalandhar has been allotted ₹80 lakh for recovery van, medicines and fodder for the cattle.
Sub-divisional magistrate (Shahkot) Navneet Kaur Bal, joint commissioner MCJ Gurwinder Randhawa, (ACP) Mandeep Singh and deputy director animal husbandry Iqbalpreet Singh were also present during the meeting.
