Thieves try to run over Jalandhar cop

SBSNAGAR: Three unidentifi­ed carborne thieves tried to run over a head constable in Langroya village, branded as ‘village of drug addicts ’, on the intervenin­g night of August 23 and 24.

The cops were on a regular patrol when they spotted the accused trying to steal from a medical shop on Jalandhar-Chandigarh highway.

An FIR under Sections 186,353, 380, 457 and 511 of the IPC has been registered against unidentifi­ed persons. As per complaint, head con stable rapid rural police response system Paramjeet Singh said, he along with another cop Ram A as ra were pat rolling in Baghera village and moved to check Punjab and Sind Bank ATM in Langroya village.

He said when they reached the main road at 2.10am, they found two unidentifi­ed men trying to open a shutter of the medical store and their accomplice was sitting in a white Swift.

The head constable said that when Aasra tried to stop them, a car-borne accomplice tried to run over him. Two others attacked Aasra with an iron rod, he said.

To save himself, A a sr a opened fire, said Singh. Later the three managed to flee from the spot and left the car behind including a mobile. Sadar SHOA jay Kumar has been suspended on the count of negligence, said SSP Satinder Singh. As per sources, four cops including an ASI in a Bolero are required during patrolling.

This was not followed and even the senior officials were not informed about the incident.

Inspector Shehbaz Singh took charge of SH Oats ad ar police station in place of A jay Kumar on Wednesday. The SSP said that also the number on the car of thieves’ was found fake.
