Jammu girls college principal attached, students’ protest on

JAMMU :The Jammu & Kashmir government on Wednesday attached the principal of Government College for Women, a day after student staged protest over alleged imposition of “dress code” and“mis behaviour” by the management.

The government also ordered an inquiry into the allegation­s of students against the principal. “Pending inquiry into the matter, college principal Anita Sudan is hereby attached with director college higher education department with immediatel­y effect,” higher education department additional secretary Mohmmad Ashraf Hakak said in an order.

Gee tanj ali And hot ra had been posted as in-charge, he added. Jammu deputy commission­er Raj iv Ra jan said a probe has been ordered. “We have ordered a probe. An officer has been assigned the task. The principal has not been suspended ,” the DC added.

Earlier, the college students continued their protest on the second day. Protesting against the dress code and alleged diktats by the college principal, they took to the streets and raised slogans against the principal. Joined by students of other colleges, includ- ing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers, the protesters staged a dharna at the office of deputy commission­er Jammu.

To calm the tempers, Jammu additional deputy commission­er Anuradha Gupta assured the protesting students that the local administra­tion is with them.
