Ex-Cong councillor booked for killing cop on the run

AMRITSAR: Former Congress councillor Surinder Chaudhry, booked on Tuesday, in the murder of a constable, is evading arrest. Earlier, Chaudhry, his son Pa wan Ch audh ry and others were booked under attempt to murder charges.

As per the incident, on June 18, Chaudhrywi­th others had allegedly pelted brick sand stones during al and dispute, injuring two cops including constable Rajesh Kumar and constable Narendra Kumar at Put ligh arin Amritsar.

Constable Rajesh Kumar had suffered serious head and chest injuries in a bid to stop the clash between the two groups.

Narendra had also suffered minor injuries. An ex-servicemen­t Rajesh was admitted to a local hospital in a critical condition.

The cop was discharged twice after signs of recovery but was again admitted earlier this month.

Police said, “The doctors had cured the head injury but the chest injury proved fatal resulting in his death .” The police have now bookedSu rind er Ch audh ry and others for murder under Section 302 of the Indian Pen al Code (IPC). Sources however claimed that police arrested one co-accusedint­he case onWednesda­y.

“The murder sections have been added in the case. Our teams are raiding at the possible hideout soft he absconding accused ,” said additional deputy commis- sioner of police (ADCP) Lakhbir Singh.

The former Congress councillor allegedly was involved in a property dispute with one Karaj Singh of Kiran Colony in Putlighar.

Meanwhile the deceased was cremated at Chawinda devi village in Amritsar district on Wednesday .“We will now rearrest the accused who got bail earlier, since the murder section has been added now”, said a senior police officer.
