Haryana to rate its villages; 7-star for perfect sex ratio, literacy, swacchta

MINISTER SAYS STATE HAS TAKEN ₹5,000 CR LOAN FROM NABARD TO EXECUTE DEVELOPMEN­T WORKS IN VILLAGES

ROHTAK: Haryana agricultur­e minister OP Dhankar said the state government will soon start giving star ratings to all its villages on the basis of work done in villages and the facilities they have.

Dhankar was addressing the representa­tives of pan ch a ya ti raj institutio­ns in the concluding ceremony of a three-day seminar in Bhiwani.

He said ratings of up to seven stars would be given to villages, based on sex ratio, sanitation, cases of power theft, environmen­t, literacy rate and crime rate. He said such a healthy competitio­n among villages would lead to their overall developmen­t by encouragin­g all citizens to make their surroundin­gs better.

Dhankar said the state has taken a loan of Rs 5,000 cr ore from NA BAR D to undertake developmen­t works in villages, as the panchayati raj budget of Rs 2,000 crore for over 6,000 villages in Haryana was not proving to be adequate in catering to the needs of villages.

He said an additional assistance has also been sought from the finance commission. “With the assistance of NABARD and finance commission, Rs 15,000 cr ore would be spent on developmen­t of village sin the state during next five years ,” he said.

Wooing the village chiefs, Dhankar said no FIR would be lodged against them without proper investigat­ion of complaints.

He said Rs 3 lakh would be given annually to all villages for recurring expenses. He said illegal possessors of panchayat land would be removed.

Dhankar said the process of issuing new below poverty line rationcard­swouldstar­tsoon.He said he was the chairman of the committee constitute­d for this purpose, which has sent its proposal to the government.
