GURGAON: Residents of Park View Residency (PVR), Sector 3, have raised concerns over the rising air pollution in the area caused by the ongoing construction work on Carterpuri Road, which leads to the Atul Kataria Chowk via the sectors 4 and 5 roundabout.

The road widening work has been on for the last six months and the progress has been slow, leading to snarls on a daily basis. Residents said many of them have developed eye infections, which they attribute to the dust in the air.

Residents have approached the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) calling for action, however, nothing has been done so far.

According to the residents’ welfare association( R WA) members, many are suffering from eye irritations due to the dust while others have respiratory problems.

Residents are demanding the sprinkling of water on the stretch to settle the dust but authorities are yet to do this.

“The authorities should at least issue necessary orders to contractors to curtail dust pollution by sprinkling water and covering the construction site. Officials should visit the spot and check the pollution level,” said Ashu Mehta, a resident.

“The plum es of dust are visible from a distance and one cannot walk on the stretch or stand out on the balcony. Several residents are complaining of dust aller- gies,” said Mansi Talwar, a resident.

The dust particles are leading to breathing trouble in senior citizens and children, allege residents.

Several tenants have already moved out from the condominium but the owners have no other option but to bear the health hazard.

Traffic congestion is another major issue, residents said.

“It takes more than half an hour to cross the half kilometre stretch and the construction is resulting in long snarls,” said Vandana Kohli, a resident.

MCG officials said they have already asked the contractor to ensure that he sprinkles water at the site.

“We will visit the spot again on Saturday and check the condition there ,” a senior MC G official said.
