HARYANA ALLOWS CATTLE REARING IN URBAN AREAS

CHANDIGARH: The Ha ryan a government has decided to allow cattle rearing in urban areas too. Animal husbandry and dairying minister OP Dhankar said on Sunday that in a first-of-its-kind move, about 50 to 100 acres will be earmarked in a town to set up ‘hostels for cattle’, thus providing a central place for milch cattle.

Dhankar said that the government was also in the process of establishi­ng a dairy industry in urban areas to further boost milk production.

The government is providing interest-free loan for up to seven years to setup dairy units of up to 50 milch animals.

He said that governor Kaptan Singh will inaugurate the threeday Haryana Swarna Jayanti Cattle Fair to be organised at Jhajjar from October 27 where chief minister Man oh ar L al K hattar will be the chief guest on October 29.

A catwalk of indigenous cattle will also be held during the fair. About 15,000 farmers will be invited to the mela to motivate them towards cattle rearing.

He said that for the first time, a fair of quality cattle will also be organised with an objective to make Haryana the best state in milk production. A

About 2,500 cattle are expected to participat­e in the mega event. A prize money of ₹9 crore will be given away to the winner.

This time, people will be able to sell and purchase cattle in the mega event as opposed to earlier when the cattle were only put up on display.
