Girl molested by male nurses, protesters call for closure of hospital

GURGAON: The parents and neighb our sofa 16- year-old girl, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by two male nurses of a private hospital last month, protested in front of the hospital on Sunday demanding its shutdown.

Though both the nurses were arrested on November 27 after the girl’s mother had filed a complaint at the Sector 14 police station, the parents, however, demanded the cancellati­on of the registrati­on of Shiva Hospital, which is situated on Sector 12 road in A chary aP uri of G ur ga on.

“It (assault) can happen with any girl or woman patient. The hospital is responsibl­e for the action of its staff. My daughter is not able to lead a normal life because of the incident ,” the girl’ s mother said.

She also pointed out that the hospital management has, so far, failed to provide footage of CCTV cameras to the police and alleged that this is also an irresponsi­ble act. “Action should be taken against the hospital management,” she said. She alleged that when her daughter was admitted to the hospital, there was no woman staff during the night and the men allegedly molested her.

“My husband was not allowed to go inside the Intensive Care Unit( ICU) even when my daughter was shouting. This is cl ea re vi- dencethatt­hehospital­isawareof these incidents,” the mother alleged.

Another protester said, “It is just not acceptable how unsafe our children are in hospitals these days. We cannot trust anyone .” Around 2.30 pm, more than 20 people gathered outside the hospital and raised slogans against the hospital management.The police were called to the spot and an officer tried to talk to the agitated neighbours and parents to control the situation.

Subinspect­or Aman Singh, officiatin­g SH O of Sector 14 police station, said, “We have already given a report to the chief medical officer regarding the findings and have arrested the accused. We can take action against the hospital management only after we are directed by the health department.”

The victim was admitted to the hospital on November 16 as she had mistaken ly drunk from a bottle of insecticid­e. Both the accused allegedly touched the victim in appropriat­ely, removed her clothes and threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident. Meanwhile, the hospital administra­tion said that they are co operating with the police in the investigat­ion.

“We are taking all precaution­s in the hospital after that incident,” Amit Dagar, managing director, Shiva Hospital, said.
