BJP functionar­y shot at by three men in Gurgaon

GURGAON: An aspiring BJP leader, who had sought the party ticket during the recently held municipal elections, was allegedly shot at on Sunday morning at a petrol pump on Pataudi road.

The police said three assailants riding a bike to the Boxer petrol pump shot at Sandeep Mahlawat, a resident of Gadoli village around 11am, when he was sitting inside his Toyota Fortuner car.

Sector 10 police station against unidentifi­ed men as the victim has not named any suspects. However, the police is exploring the possibilit­y of gang war behind the attack.

Mahlwat was rushed to a private hospital. “A bullet grazed past the victim and he did not suffer any major injury. The accused escaped after the attack but we have obtained the CCTV footage from the petrol pump and the accused will be nabbed soon,” said Sumit Kumar, Sumit Kumar.

As per the police, the three attackers can be seen coming to the petrol pump on a bike and they targeted the victim, who had come to get the tyre pressure checked. Mahlawat was a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionar­y at the district level and had been sought a party ticket to fight the corporatio­n election.

He is a property dealer by profession and police is looking at both political as well real estate angles to probe the crime, officials said.

It is also being ascertaine­d whether he had crossed paths with members of San deep Ga do li gang, which still has a toehold in the area despite the death of their leader in a police encounter in February 2016.

On October 1, a 22-year old man was allegedly shot dead in Basai village after he consumed liquor with his friends.

The accused was returning home when he was accosted by criminals, who shot him dead inside his office apparently over a financial dispute.
