KOCHI : Skipper Sunil Chhetri was on target from the spot while Miku struck twice as Bengaluru thrashed Kerala Blasters 3-1 in an Indian Super League match on Sunday

Courage Pekuson pulled one back for the Blasters.

The win took Bengaluru to third and in touching distance of league leaders Chennaiyin .

The Blues could have easily scored more goals if not for some heroic goalkeeping by Subhasish Roy. He was called into action a number of times on either side of the break, and he kept his team in the contest.

In the 65th minute a hand-ball by Sandesh Jhingan gave Ben- galuru a chance to take the lead from the spot.

Chhetri took the responsibility and this time Roy had no answers.

Later on, Miku got himself a double. The Spanish import’s first goal came after a magnificent solo run from the midfield before putting it past Roy. Barely a minute later, he got on to a cut back from Subasish Bose, who had done well to get inside the box after nutmegging Jhingan. Miku was left with a simple task of tapping the ball home, which he did with ease.

There was some consolation for Kerala as Pekuson scored with a down the middle sprint splitting the Bengaluru defence.

AFTER THE BREAK, AIZAWL TOOK ONLY SEVEN MINUTES TO DOUBLE THE LEAD COURTESY IONESCU’S BRILLIANT EFFORT

AIZAWL BEAT GOKULAM

KOZHIKODE: Aizawl logged home three points beating debutants Gokulam Kerala 2-0 in an away encounter of I-League on Sunday.

Daniel Addo’s own goal (45’) and Andrei Ionescu (52’) sealed it for Aizawl. Aizawl with 10 points are placed fifth.

Lalram Hmunmawia put in a low cross for Kobayashi from the left-flank but eventually Daniel Addo, Gokulam’s Ghanian defender poked it into the net in the 45th minute much to the dismay of the home team.

After the break, Aizawl took only seven minutes to double the lead courtesy Ionescu’s brilliant effort. Lalmuankima on the counter freed the Romanian striker, who blasted the back of the net from the top of the box.
