Enforcement team razes 40 structures in Gurgaon amid protests by locals
GURGAON: The district town planning (DTP) enforcement Gurgaon on Friday removed nearly 40 structures such as shops, hutments, dhabas etc which were raised illegally by locals along master roads in sectors 59-65. These unauthorised structures were raised over the last few years, posing a big hindrance to the development of the city.
The enforcement team, which was aided by the police during the demolition drive, ran into protests by some locals and took three-four hours to remove the unauthorised structures.
“It is our duty to check unauthorised constructions being raised on lands falling in the master plan zone of the city. We have removed nearly 40 structures — many of them two-storey ones such as dhabas, residential buildings and shops among others. The owners of none of these structures sought permission for land conversion and neither do they have building plans. Those indulging in such illegal activities are none other than the land mafia,” Rajender Sharma, district town planner (DTP), enforcement, Gurgaon, said.
DTP enforcement had issued a notice to land owners a fortnight ago to remove unauthorised structures on their own.
“The locals ignored our notice. We carried out a demolition drive against these unauthorised constructions along the roads in sectors 62-65, in the revenue estate of the village Nangli Umarpur. These unauthorised structures included shops, huts and residential buildings,” Narender Kumar, assistant town planner (ATP), enforcement, Gurgaon, said.
An enforcement department official said that this drive will continue and all unauthorised constructions in sectors 59-68 will be demolished to ensure that the planned development of sector roads in these areas are not impeded or hampered.
The officials have advised people residing in the area not to raise any construction without permission of competent authorities, as violation of the order would result in loss of their properties.
Earlier, the DTP enforcement had removed over 500 unauthorised structures in sectors 81-95 falling in the revenue estates of villages Shikhopur, Badha, Siknderpur Badha, Hayatpur, Wazirpur, Nawda Faithpur, Mewka, Dhorka and Babrauli among others.
