SRINAGAR: Four unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. “Four militants have been killed in the Arampora operation in Kupwara district. The operation is still in progress,” a defence spokesman said here. The encounter broke out in Arampora area as security forces launched an operation after militants had opened fire on an army patrol, an army official said. He said the soldiers reacted swiftly and launched an operation to track down the militants.
SRINAGAR: Four militants were killed in a gunbattle with security forces in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday, the army said.
The encounter, officials said at the time of filing this report, was still going on at Halmatpora area.
An army official said, “Four terrorists killed so far. Operation continues.”
Director general of state police (DGP) SP Vaid, however, tweeted that three militants were gunned down.
A senior district police officer said that bodies of the slain militants were not yet recovered and the exact toll could be ascertained only after that.
According to the army, the militants had fired on an area domination patrol in ArampuraHalmatpura area.
“Our troops acted swiftly. Contact was established at around 3.30 pm,” the army official said.
Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the forested area after specific inputs of militant presence.
Three militants were killed in an encounter on the outskirts of Srinagar on the intervening night of March 15-16.
Two of the slain militants, who were identified as Rasiq Nabi Bhat, a resident of Tral and Shabir Dar, a resident of Awantipora, belonged to Kashmir while the third, Hamas, was said to be from Pakistan.
