JAMMU: Security forces on Wednesday eliminated four heavily armed Pakistani terrorists in dense forests along the Line of Control in Sunderbani area of Rajouri district.

Rajouri deputy commissioner Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said: “Four militants have been killed at three separate places by the security forces in the daylong operation at Rewarian, Talan and Kanura Likki in Sunderbani.”

He said there was no casualty to the security forces in the clinical strike. Sunderbani is around 80 km from Jammu via Akhnoor.

Director general of police Dr SP Vaid said: “A gunbattle had broken out this morning in Sunderbani after security forces established contact with the terrorists. It was the same group that had infiltrated into the Indian side six days ago and since then the army along with Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF had launched an intensive search in the area.”

A senior intelligence official said, “The army had deployed drones and the ultras were sighted in Minka and Bharote areas on Monday and Tuesday (March 25 and 26). They had split into groups to dodge security forces. Their intercepts confirmed that they had also sighted drones hovering over the area.”

He further said one of the terrorists was heard telling others “parinda upar ghoom raha hai” (a bird (drone) is hovering in the sky) before going into hiding.

“Since Sunderbani has many defence installations, the terrorists might have had plans to attack these,” he added.
