Aid for education of labourers’ kids hiked

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has hiked the financial assistance for education given to the children of registered workers by 50%, labour minister Nayab Saini said on Wednesday.

Talking to mediaperso­ns here, Saini said the financial assistance of students from Class 1 to 8 has been increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 8,000, for students of Class 9 to 12 and of ITI from Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000, for students pursuing graduation from Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000 and for post-graduation students from Rs 12,000 to Rs 20,000.

Likewise, workers’ children getting 90% or more marks in Class 10 would be given one-time incentive of Rs 51,000, students getting 80% or more marks Rs 41,000, students securing 70% or more marks Rs 31,000 and those getting 60% or more marks would be given Rs 21,000, he said.

To a query, he said the financial assistance of Rs 51,000 given as ‘Kanyadaan’ to the registered constructi­on workers had now been hiked by an additional amount of Rs 50,000. He added that it had been decided for the first time that the unregister­ed workers would also be provided with financial assistance of Rs 1.50 lakh in case of disability due to accident at the workplace.

Saini said in the second phase, government canteens would be opened in Bhiwani, Ambala, Fatehabad, Karnal, Panchkula and Panipat, where food will be provided to labourers at subsidised rate of Rs 10.
