Suspend cops for negligence: Congress leaders to governor
SHIMLA : The Congress party in opposition on Thursday submitted a memorandum to governor against the deterioration of law and order situation across the state and demanded suspension of cops who accompanied the slain woman town planner Shail Bala Sharma during the demolition drive.
The Congress legislature lead by state party chief Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and Congress legislature party leader Mukesh Agnihotri presented a memorandum to governor Acharya Devvrat at his residence Barnes Court.
The Congress leaders apprised the governor about deteriorating law and order situation in the state. They alleged that the recent killing of assistant town planner in Kasauli was example of worsening law and order situation.
In its memorandum, the Congress leaders also questioned the role of police. It mentioned that hotel owner who shot dead the assistant town planner escaped the crime scene.
The Congress demanded immediate suspension of the cops who accompanied teams constituted for demolishing the unauthorised hotels in Kasauli.
The demolition drive was being implemented by four different teams comprising officials from various departments.
"Even the government officers who are implementing the court orders are unsafe," Sukhu said while addressing media persons.
The Congress leaders drew attention of the government towards recent rape of a dalit girl in Hamirpur.
The party also cited the case of Nagrota Bagwan where a girl immolated herself after she was repeatedly stalked by a local boy. The law and order in the state has collapsed and chief minister is busy touring," said Congress legislature party leader Mukesh Agnihotri.
