Ladi appeals to EC for fair probe in illegal mining case
SHAHKOT(JALANDHAR): A day after Congress candidate for the Shahkot bypoll Hardev Singh Ladi Sherowalia was booked on the charge of illegal mining, he wrote a letter to the chief electoral officer, Punjab, requesting for a fair probe into the case.
Ladi was booked on the charge of illegal mining within hours of the declaration of his candidature for the Shahkot assembly bypoll, which is scheduled for May 28.
In its letter, Ladi termed the FIR registered against him a political conspiracy. “The very timing of the registration of the FlR, on two counts, smacks of a political conspiracy. One, it was registered within less than 24 hours of my nomination by the Congress for the byelection and two, it was registered in wee hours. Besides, within an hour or so, the copy of the FIR was available on the social media, which clearly establishes that more than finding out the truth, the purpose of the registration of the FIR was to malign my image ,” the letter reads.
Ladi also asked the election commission to find the purpose and motive of the complainant Mohan Singh. “As per your orders, the SHO concerned was specifically directed to get in touch with all departments concerned and inquire into the allegations levelled against me, but perusal of the FIR would clearly reflect that the SHO has not associated any officer of any department and has merely on the basis of the email forwarded by your office gone ahead and registered the FlR, which clearly shows his mala fide intention,” Ladi, stated in his letter.
