HOSHIARPUR: A five-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gangraped in Dasuya on Monday night. The victim, daughter of a migrant labourer from Bihar, went missing when she was sleeping outside her house with her siblings.

Her father said the children had gone out of the house to sleep due to a power cut. When the electricity was restored, the family discovered that the five-year-old was missing. She was not found anywhere at night, but was found next morning lying near the adjoining railway tracks with injuries all over her body.

The girl was taken to the local civil hospital where doctors revealed that she had been raped. She was referred to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh..

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) J Elanchezhian said it was not confirmed if the girl was gangraped or was assaulted by a single offender. “The girl is in a state of trauma. She first said there were three persons who hurt her but later claimed that only one person was the culprit. We are verifying it and will soon nab the accused,” he said.

A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the accused.
