GURUGRAM: A 60-year-old man, member of the housekeeping staff at an upscale housing society in Sector 90, was arrested for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old girl. The accused allegedly molested the child when she was in the elevator.

The child’s family said the incident took place on Sunday around 3.30pm. “We had returned from the market, and had to pay the driver who wasn’t carrying any change. My daughter and I went up to our apartment, and I gave her the change for the cab driver, who had parked his cab at the gate. She returned within few minutes in a state of shock,” the mother said, adding that she then narrated her ordeal.

The child told her parents that while going down in the elevator, the accused started making small talk. It was reportedly at this point that he started touching her inappropriately. Although she resisted but he did not stop, said the mother of the child.

The parents lodged a complaint against the accused at the Women’s police station, alleging that the accused had ‘touched the girl inappropriately’ and warned her not to tell anyone.

Based on the parent’s complaint, an FIR was lodged against the accused under Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. “The accused was arrested on Sunday and produced before a court before being sent to jail. HTC
