Gang­ster, 6 oth­ers held for ex­Akali sarpanch’s mur­der

AM­RIT­SAR : The ru­ral po­lice claimed to have solved the mur­der case of for­mer Akali sarpanch, here on Satur­day.

Six peo­ple, in­clud­ing a gang­ster from Khiala vil­lage, near Am­rit­sar have been ar­rested in this con­nec­tion.The po­lice have also re­cov­ered the sword used in the crime.

The ac­cused have been iden­ti­fied as Dil­preet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh aka Lakha, Sar­wan Singh aka Samma, Gurb­hej Singh aka Jab­bar, gang­ster Gurb­hej Singh aka Bheja and Ladda Singh of Khiala vil­lage.

Six peo­ple, in­clud­ing a gang­ster from Khiala vil­lage, near Am­rit­sar have been ar­rested in this con­nec­tion.The po­lice have also re­cov­ered the sword used in the crime.

The ac­cused have been iden­ti­fied as Dil­preet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh aka Lakha, Sar­wan Singh aka Samma, Gurb­hej Singh aka Jab­bar, gang­ster Gurb­hej Singh aka Bheja and Ladda Singh of Khiala vil­lage.

The vic­tim, Sarab­jit Singh Zail­dar ,55, had gone to his field — on the day of in­ci­dent — Au­gust 7. His body, with a sev­ered head, was found near a tube­well at noon.

Zail­dar was elected as the sarpanch of Khiala vil­lage twice.

Se­nior su­per­in­ten­dent of po­lice (SSP), Am­rit­sar ru­ral, Param­pal Singh, while ad­dress­ing a press con­fer­ence, said, fol­low­ing a com­plaint by the vic­tim’s nephew, Samsher Singh, the Lopoke po­lice had booked three per­sons in­clud­ing Bheja in the mur­der case.

“Af­ter the in­ter­ro­ga­tion, sta­tion house of­fi­cer (SHO), Lopoke po­lice sta­tion, Kapil Kaushal, ar­rested the six ac­cused per­sons,” he said.

The vic­tim and ac­cused Dil­preet Singh were in­volved in a land dis­pute, said the SSP. “How­ever, Bheja had an old en­mity with the for­mer sarpanch, while the other four ac­cused were em­broiled in a street dis­pute with the vic­tim,” he said.

The SSP said, “Dur­ing his in­ter­ro­ga­tion, Dil­preet con­fessed that he was in­sti­gated by the other ac­cused per­sons to mur­der the for­mer sarpanch.” Ac­cused Sar­wan Singh had also of­fered ₹5 lakh to Dil­preet be­sides as­sur­ing to sort out his land dis­pute if he would kill Sarab­jit Singh, said po­lice. Sar­wan had also pro­vided the sword, used in crime, to Dil­preet, said the SSP.

“Dil­preet’s fa­ther had trans­ferred around three acres in the name of his nephew, Hinda, at Kakkar vil­lage with the con­sent of the for­mer sarpanch, fol­low­ing which Dil­preet had been nurs­ing a grudge against the vic­tim,” said po­lice.

The ar­rested ac­cused will be pro­duced in a lo­cal court on Mon­day and fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion will be car­ried out af­ter tak­ing them in po­lice re­mand.

A case un­der Sec­tions 302 (pun­ish­ment for mur­der) and 120 B ( pun­ish­ment of crim­i­nal con­spir­acy) of In­dian Pe­nal Code (IPC) has been reg­is­tered against the ac­cused at Lopoke po­lice sta­tion.
