Woman ends life, in­laws booked for abet­ment to sui­cide

KA­PURTHALA: In con­nec­tion with the death of 33-year-old Man­jeet Kaur, who com­mit­ted sui­cide on Fri­day evening, her hus­band, in-laws were booked on charges of abet­ment to sui­cide on Satur­day. Man­jeet re­port­edly ended her life by hang­ing with a ceil­ing fan at her home in Ah­mad­pur vil­lage, Ka­purthala.

Her brother Satish Ku­mar in his com­plaint said, Man­jeet’s hus­band Kuldeep Singh and in-laws used to tor­ture her as he wanted to di­vorce her and set­tle in Canada af­ter mar­ry­ing a lo­cal na­tive there. Kuldeep’s fa­ther Ajit Singh is also set­tled in Canada.Ku­mar al­leged that Man­jeet and Kuldeep who had been mar­ried for 10 years, had been fac­ing trou­ble in their mar­riage from past few years.

He said,“We tried to re­solve their is­sues many times and even vis­ited their house along with Pan­chayat mem­bers. “Kuldeep had re­turned from Moscow on Mon­day and my sis­ter called me on Tues­day,” he said.

“She said that she will die if their dif­fer­ences re­mained un­re­solved,” al­leged Ku­mar. Fol­low­ing the vic­tim’s brother’s com­plaint , a case un­der the Sec­tions 306, 34 of the IPC was reg­is­tered against Kuldeep Singh; Ajit Singh, Amar­jeet Kaur, sis­ter-in­law and Man­jeet Singh, broth­erin-law, who are ab­scond­ing.
