Woman ends life, inlaws booked for abetment to suicide
KAPURTHALA: In connection with the death of 33-year-old Manjeet Kaur, who committed suicide on Friday evening, her husband, in-laws were booked on charges of abetment to suicide on Saturday. Manjeet reportedly ended her life by hanging with a ceiling fan at her home in Ahmadpur village, Kapurthala.
Her brother Satish Kumar in his complaint said, Manjeet’s husband Kuldeep Singh and in-laws used to torture her as he wanted to divorce her and settle in Canada after marrying a local native there. Kuldeep’s father Ajit Singh is also settled in Canada.Kumar alleged that Manjeet and Kuldeep who had been married for 10 years, had been facing trouble in their marriage from past few years.
He said,“We tried to resolve their issues many times and even visited their house along with Panchayat members. “Kuldeep had returned from Moscow on Monday and my sister called me on Tuesday,” he said.
“She said that she will die if their differences remained unresolved,” alleged Kumar. Following the victim’s brother’s complaint , a case under the Sections 306, 34 of the IPC was registered against Kuldeep Singh; Ajit Singh, Amarjeet Kaur, sister-inlaw and Manjeet Singh, brotherin-law, who are absconding.
