YOUTH CONG LEADER HELD WITH HEROIN NEAR AMRITSAR

AMRITSAR: The Attari block president of Youth Congress’ anti-narcotics cell Guriqbal Singh alias Rupa was arrested for possessing 2 grams heroin at a check post in Khasa Chowk, 10 kilometres from here, police sources said on Thursday.

Guriqbal is a resident of Hoshiar Nagar village that falls under the jurisdicti­on of Gharinda police station.

“We stopped a man coming from Khasa market side on suspicion. During his physical search, we seized 2 grams heroin from his possession,” subinspect­or Manmeet Pal Singh of Gharinda police station said.

He said a case under Sections 22-61-85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrop­ic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against Guriqbal Singh.

“The accused was produced before a local court here on Thursday and was sent in judicial custody,” the sub-inspector added.

District president of Youth Congress Dilraj Singh Sarkaria reportedly sacked Guriqbal from the post after his arrest.

We will recommend Guriqbal’s expulsion from the party, the district Youth Congress president said.
