Lud­hi­ana woman abducts NRI hus­band for money

LUD­HI­ANA: A woman, along with her ac­com­plices, kid­napped her NRI hus­band from Indira Gandhi In­ter­na­tional Air­port, New Delhi, on Novem­ber 3, soon af­ter he landed in In­dia, and took him to Dakoha vil­lage in Ja­land­har. The NRI, Prit­pal Singh Palah, 64, was al­legedly beaten up in con­fine­ment and taken to State Bank of In­dia’s NRI branch near Foun­tain Chowk on Thurs­day where he was asked to with­draw ₹15 lakh from his ac­count.

LUD­HI­ANA: A woman, along with her ac­com­plices, kid­napped her NRI hus­band from Indira Gandhi In­ter­na­tional Air­port, New Delhi, on Novem­ber 3, soon af­ter he landed in In­dia, and took him to Dakoha vil­lage in Ja­land­har.

The NRI, Prit­pal Singh Palah, 64, was al­legedly beaten up in con­fine­ment and taken to State Bank of In­dia’s NRI branch near Foun­tain Chowk on Thurs­day where he was asked to with­draw ₹15 lakh from his ac­count.

How­ever, the NRI wrote a ‘dis­tress note’ on the with­drawal slip and handed it over to bank em­ployee. In the mean­time, the ac­cused got a clue about the plan go­ing awry and fled from the bank.

The Divi­sion 8 po­lice have reg­is­tered a case on the com­plaint of Prit­pal Singh of Shim­la­puri against his wife Ra­jni Sharma, her mother and their ac­com­plices Babbu alias Bablu, Pawan Ku­mar of Khus­ropur of Ja­land­har and Gur­preet Singh of Dakoha vil­lage of Ja­land­har.

The NRI said he is a ci­ti­zen of the UK. Af­ter di­vorc­ing his first wife, he solem­nised sec­ond mar­riage with Ra­jni, who was a widow, on March 4.

He said a month af­ter his mar­riage, he re­turned to the UK. On Novem­ber 3, he came to In­dia and his wife Ra­jni had come to the air­port to re­ceive him. How­ever, Ra­jni, along with her ac­com­plices, al­legedly kid­napped him from the air­port, took him to Dakoha vil­lage in Ja­land­har and beat him up af­ter con­fin­ing him in a room.

Prit­pal said on Thurs­day, the ac­cused took him to a bank and asked him to with­draw ₹15 lakh. “I man­aged to write ‘call the po­lice, I am kid­napped’ on the with­drawal slip and handed it over to the woman em­ployee at the counter. The woman took the slip to the man­ager,” he said.

Mean­while, the ac­cused sensed some­thing amiss in the plan and fled from the spot. A team of Divi­sion 8 po­lice reached at the spot and started in­ves­ti­ga­tions.

Sub-in­spec­tor Man­jit Singh, who is in­ves­ti­gat­ing the case, said an FIR un­der sec­tions 365 (kid­nap­ping and wrong­ful con­fine­ment), 420 (cheat­ing ), 406 (crim­i­nal breach of trust), 511 (at­tempt to com­mit of­fences pun­ish­able with im­pris­on­ment up to life ), 506 (crim­i­nal in­tim­i­da­tion) and 120-B (crim­i­nal con­spir­acy) of the IPC has been reg­is­tered against the ac­cused.

The po­lice have launched a man­hunt to trace and ar­rest the ac­cused.
