MAN STABBED TO DEATH OVER BON­FIRE TIFF

AM­RIT­SAR: A 27-year-old man was stabbed to death while his friend was in­jured af­ter the duo en­tered into a scuf­fle with some men dur­ing Lohri cel­e­bra­tions in the Sul­tan­wind area of Am­rit­sar on Sun­day.

The de­ceased has been iden­ti­fied as Kawaljit Singh of Tej Na­gar in Sul­tan­wind. His friend Sikander Singh, who was at­tacked with a brick, is un­der­go­ing treat­ment at a hospi­tal.

The in­ci­dent took place at around 9pm when Kawaljit and Sikander were on the way back home from a mar­ket. Sta­tion house of­fi­cer of the B-Divi­sion po­lice sta­tion said area res­i­dents had built a bon­fire in the mid­dle of a street in Sul­tan­wind. “Kawa­jit and Sikander were on a bike. When they asked res­i­dents to let them pass, a scuf­fle en­sued and in the melee, Kawaljit was stabbed by some­one,” he said.

They were rushed to Guru Ram Das Hospi­tal in Sul­tan­wind where the doc­tors de­clared Kawaljit dead.

A case will be reg­is­tered af­ter record­ing Sikander’s state­ment, the SHO said. HTC
