The taksali leaders’ revolt appears to have made Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal

change his style of functioning, or at least that’s what ■ he is trying to show. At an event in Bathinda last week, Sukhbir was asked about the party candidates for the Lok Sabha elections and his response was that the party’s core committee will decide. On being told that his wife, Union food processing industries minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, has rubbished speculations about shifting to the Ferozepur Lok Sabha seat, saying that she has ensured all-round development in her Bathinda constituency, the SAD chief said she cannot take decisions that rest with the core committee. The effort is to show that party, not family, is supreme as the Badals have been accused of running the party like their fiefdom.
