Capt enhances fund allocation for farm debt waiver

CHANDIGARH: Chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday enhanced the fund allocation for loan-waiver scheme to ₹5,500 crore. The chief minister announced the decision while chairing the 45th meeting of the Punjab Rural Development Board here.

He also directed the Mandi Board to expedite the ongoing project of repairing rural link roads across the state for ensuring its time-bound completion, said an official spokesperson.

The spokesperson said the increase in funds for farm debt waiver will enable expansion of the scheme, bringing more debtridden farmers into its ambit.

The CM also said his government will not allow financial crunch to undermine its commitment to provide relief to the distressed farmers in the state. The government was also working on a plan to cover landless farmers under the scheme.
