OPPOSITION’S RIDICULOUS DEMAND

The Election Commission of India claims that the electronic voting machines (EVMs) are tamperproof but the Opposition thinks they are not. They demand 50 per cent EVM results should be crosschecked with VVPAT (voter-verified paper audit trail) slips. Though matching EVM with VVPAT machines will ensure transparency, the Opposition’s demand is ridiculous because it only questions the EC’s credibility. Akram Shahab, Chandigarh
