Cong walks out over ‘delay’ in construction of highways
SHIMLA: Congress members walked out from the Himachal Pradesh vidhan sabha over the “delay” in construction of 69 highways, announced for state by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre. Raising the issue during question hour, leader of opposition Mukesh Agnihotri alleged that BJP government in the state had failed to get the amount, required for the project, sanctioned.
“The government had been making tall claims on the issue, but there is nothing on ground,” he said. Dissatisfied with the chief minister’s reply, the opposition members raised anti-government slogans and walked out from the house.
Later, in a statement to the house, CM blamed the previous Congress government for the delay in preparation of the detailed project report for 69 highways worth ₹65000 crore.
Thakur said the Centre had sanctioned ₹173.75 crore for the project, but the Congress government initiated process for hiring consultants for only 8 national highways. He said land acquisition for these projects had not started.
CM FLAYS OPPN FOR WALKING OUT WITHOUT LISTENING TO HIM
Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur condemned the opposition for its behaviour stating that the members from the other side got full opportunity to put forward their viewpoint.
They would have got another opportunity but walked out without listening to the full reply, said Thakur.
Meanwhile, in his reply on the debate on governor’s address, chief minister said 30 schemes which have been started by the government would be soon implemented on the ground.
He said the state government has sanctioned ₹9,000 grant from the Centre for various projects proposed to come up in the state.
Speaking on the law and order issue, Thakur said that the increase in cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act reflects the sincere efforts of the state government to eradicate the drug menace in Himachal.
