Debt-rid­den Bathinda farm leader ends life

BATHINDA: A farmer Man­jit Singh, 45, of Bhu­cho Khurda vil­lage, who was block pres­i­dent of the Nathana union of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugra­han) died dur­ing treat­ment at a pri­vate hospi­tal on Fri­day night. He was un­der a debt of ₹7 lakh and had con­sumed poi­son on Jan­uary 26.

Ac­cord­ing to the Bathinda Can­ton­ment po­lice, his son Sukhjit Singh, who is pur­su­ing bach­e­lors in law from an in­sti­tu­tion in Sri Gan­gana­gar in Ra­jasthan, has given a state­ment that his fa­ther was un­der stress due to debt. Po­lice have con­ducted in­quest pro­ceed­ings. HTC
