Gurugram farm­ers threaten to boy­cott Lok Sabha polls

GURUGRAM: Farm­ers of eight vil­lages in the district on Satur­day threat­ened to boy­cott the up­com­ing 2019 gen­eral elec­tions un­less the state gov­ern­ment de­cides to build a check dam on the Na­jaf­garh drain to re­trieve 5,500 acres of sub­merged farm­land be­fore the Election Com­mis­sion’s model code of con­duct is en­forced.

On Satur­day, farm­ers hail­ing from Kherki Ma­jra, Dhankot, Chandu Bud­hera, Dharam­pur, Momd­heri, Daultabad and Makrola vil­lages held a con­fer­ence on the is­sue in a pri­vate ho­tel in Gurugram’s Sec­tor 15.

Rakesh Daultabad, the pres­i­dent of the farm­ers’ de­vel­op­ment as­so­ci­a­tion, said the model code of con­duct is likely to be en­forced on Fe­bru­ary 27, fol­low­ing which the process of land ac­qui­si­tion to build the dam may, once again, get de­layed in­def­i­nitely.
