ROHTAK: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday asked people to use the opportunity of the upcoming Lok Sabha and state assembly elections for teaching a lesson to those who burnt Rohtak during the 2016 Jat quota stir.

Khattar was addressing a ‘Jan Vishwas Rally’ in Kalanaur constituency of Rohtak district.

Without taking any name, he blamed former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda of orchestrating the caste violence of 2016 under frustration of losing the 2014 assembly elections.

Notably, Hooda has sent a defamation notice to BJP minister Manish Grover for making a similar statement against him.

“Such people who burnt this city will not be forgotten for generations and a lesson should be taught to them in the elections,” he said.

Calling Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda “a child of a private limited company”, Khattar said Deepender became an MP only because his father was the CM at that time.

“Now that his father is not CM, the decision is with the public. I request you all to do a repeat of Jind bypoll in Rohtak as well,” he said. In the recent byelection, BJP won the seat in a multi-cornered contest.

PROMISES TO CUT POWER TARIFFS

The CM promised to slash power tariffs in near future. His assurances comes months ahead of the Lok Sabha and assembly elections amid promises by opposition parties in Haryana to cut tariffs by up to 50% if they are voted to power.

He accused the previous governments of encouraging the people not to pay electricity bills and thus pushing power corporations under Rs 27,000-crore losses. “The BJP made a bill settlement plan and recovered a sum of Rs 500 crore of the total Rs 4,000 crore outstanding bills. Also, bills worth Rs 3,500 crore were waived off,” he added.
