JJ Singh on Khadoor Sahib tour, be­gins political leg­work

FIELD VISIT Former army chief re­cently joined SAD-Tak­sali, which is a con­stituent of the Pun­jab Demo­cratic Al­liance

AM­RIT­SAR:Four days af­ter join­ing the Shi­ro­mani Akali Dal (Tak­sali), a splin­ter group of the Shi­ro­mani Akali Dal (SAD), former In­dian army chief Gen­eral (retd) JJ Singh on Sun­day vis ited the Lok Sabha seg­ment of Khadoor Sahib and in­ter­acted with peo­ple there. Singh is prob­a­ble can­di­date of the party for the Khadoor Sahib seat.

SAD (Tak­sali) pres­i­dent and Khadoor Sahib sit­ting MP Ran­jit Singh Brahm­pura brought him into the party fold on Fe­bru­ary 6 in Am­rit­sar and next day con­firmed his can­di­da­ture, though for­mal an­nounce­ment in this re­gard is yet to be made. As the party is a con­stituent of the Pun­jab’s Demo­cratic Al­liance (PDA), former army chief will be the can­di­date of the al­liance.

JJ Singh, who was ear­lier part of the SAD and also con­tested assem­bly polls against Cap­tain Amarinder Singh in 2017 from Pa­tiala un­suc­cess­fully, vis­ited the Sha­heed Har­jin­der Singh Sec­ondary School at vil­lage So­hal of Tarn Taran dis­trict in the seg­ment. He said his visit was aimed at mo­ti­vat­ing the stu­dents. How­ever, ap­pa­rantly, his visit seems to have been planned to en­sure reach to the peo­ple.

The Gen­eral ap­pre­ci­ated the work done by Brahm­pura for the peo­ple of Khadoor Sahib . He said new pol­icy will be framed in rea­grad to the wel­fare and bet­ter­ment of the peo­ple of the state. “Youth, adults and chil­dren need to in­volve them­selves in sports for healthy liv­ing, and also to en­sure that sport­ing tal­ent is groomed prop­erly, “Gen added”.

Gen­eral Singh also dis­trib­uted books among the stu­dents and as­sured of all pos­si­ble help to the stu­dents of weaker sec­tion of the so­ci­ety.
