DIVISION STATUS: KARGIL WANTS ITS SLICE TOO
SRINAGAR: Days after Ladakh was granted divisional status, people in Kargil have begun an agitation seeking rotation of divisional headquarters, which have been placed in Leh.A complete shutdown was observed in Kargil and a protest demonstration was held in Jammu on Monday. Kargil town witnessed protests and shutdown against the decision of keeping the offices of divisional commissioner and inspector general of police at Leh. Demanding that the offices should be placed on a rotational basis at Leh and Kargil, the protestors termed the decision of governor Satya Pal Malik as an injustice. Kargil Hill Development Council, chairman, Feroz Khan said, “We have started the agitation and it will continue till our demands are met. The offices have been headquartered at Leh. We want that the headquarters should be located in Kargil for six months in summer and the other six months in Leh.”
