MASSIVE RENEWAL OF CITIES NEEDED

Violations of building bylaws are rife even as new buildings continue to come up, leading to tragedies like the Karol Bagh blaze. There’s an urgent need to use the government’s smart cities mission to undertake massive renewal of existing cities. Growing cities like Delhi need to grow upwards with building laws being accordingly adjusted and enforced. Urban authorities need to coordinate better and make building bylaws and regulations tighter. Otherwise, we are only waiting for bigger tragedies to happen. Sanjay Chopra, Mohali
