AMBALA: As many as 23 cases of swine flu have been reported in Haryana health minister Anil Vij’s home district this year, according to the figures provided by the district health department.

Civil Surgeon Sant Lal Verma said six people have already died due to the disease in the district this season.

“We received 49 swine flu cases, of which 23 were found positive. Six of the patients have died. Twelve patients were discharged from the hospital and five are still undergoing treatment in government hospitals,” he added.

He said all the patients who died were admitted in hospitals outside the district.

Verma regretted that the patients are not visiting the hospitals on time.

As per the data accessed from the district health department, those who died due to swine flu included two infants and a 15-year-old boy.

State nodal officer Deepali Agarwal said, “I have not received the report from Ambala health department about the number of deaths reported due to swine flu.”

“Swine flu has spread in Ambala, Hisar, Fatehabad, Bhiwani and Rohtak districts. The health department had initially failed to prevent deaths due to swine flu in Hisar and Bhiwani. Now, a similar situation has developed in Ambala,” said a senior health official, seeking anonymity.
