Supreme Court to hear BCCI matter on Feb 21

-

NEW DELHI : The Supreme Court’s special bench will hear a range of issues pertaining to the Board of Control for Cricket in India on February 21 from 2 pm. Among the important matters listed will be the sexist comments made by India cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul during a television show, the composition and functioning of the Committee of Administrators running the Board and the formation of an ad-hoc committee for Bihar cricket. On Thursday, senior advocate PS Narasimha accepted his role as amicus curiae in the BCCI matter. He was appointed on January 17 after Gopal Subramanium resigned. The Bench, which could not hear the BCCI case on February 5 and 12, agreed to hear the challenges confronting the BCCI. The CoA is itself under the scanner. What has made it more controversial is the way chairman Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji have fought over policy decisions. Originally a four-member panel, the CoA was reduced to half its strength after resignations. The status report on affiliated units accepting the new BCCI constitution is also on the agenda. States like Tamil Nadu, unhappy with the CoA, remain defiant on clauses pertaining to tenure. TN had even suggested that the COA be replaced by a panel of former Board presidents.
