EX-SSP’S DRIVER RECORDS MAGISTERIAL STATEMENT
SIT HAD EARLIER TOLD COURT THAT DRIVER CONFESSED NO SHOT WAS FIRED ON ESCORT VEHICLE
FARIDKOT :The special investigation team (SIT) probing the Punjab sacrilege and police firing incidents has recorded the confession of former Moga senior superintendent of police and accused Charanjit Singh Sharma’s driver Gurnam Singh before the duty magistrate in Faridkot.
The statement recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) is part of the SIT’s bid to make its case stronger in the proceedings going on in the Faridkot district and sessions court.
The SIT’s findings so far had revealed that cops accused of opening fire on anti-sacrilege protesters at Behbal Kalan on October 14, 2015, had allegedly tampered with evidence and were not acting in self defence, as had been claimed by them. The SIT had also found that sub-inspector Amarjit Singh Kalar had registered a case against the protestors allegedly on the basis of false charges.
The SIT had earlier told court that Gurnam, who was driving the then SSP’s escort vehicle, had confessed that no shot was fired on his Maruti Gypsy. Cops had attributed police firing to this incident.
