I-T recovers ₹1.7 cr TDS from Punjabi varsity

PATIALA: A joint team of income tax department officials from Patiala and Chandigarh conducted a survey at Punjabi University late evening on Thursday. Income tax officer Bikramjeet Singh led the team that also recovered unpaid TDS amount of ₹1.68 crore from the varsity’s financial accounts.

Bikram added that the university had been asked to present relevant documents on February 20. An official said notices and warning letters had been issued to the varsity to deposit its pending TDS amount, but they had failed to do the needful.

Registrar Manjit Singh Nijjar and V-C professor BS Ghuman could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
