AGRI SUMMIT Says state can provide agricultural leadership to country
ROHTAK : President Ramnath Kovind on Sunday said that Haryana truly represented the ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ slogan, given by former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, as families living in the state have dedicated their lives to both military service and farming.
The President, who was speaking at the concluding ceremony of the 4th Haryana Agriculture Leadership Summit at Gannaur in Sonepat, started his address by paying homage to CRPF troopers martyred in Pulwama attack. “The attack was a cowardly act and the whole country stands by the families of the martyrs,” said Kovind.
Launching a digital mobile application for farmers, the president said Haryana can provide agricultural leadership to the country.
He said that in 2018, Haryana had participated in the ‘Agriculture Kumbh’ held in Uttar Pradesh, where countries such as Israel, Brazil and Netherlands were participating and started a centre of excellence with these countries to exchange knowledge and innovations in farming.
“I am happy that representatives of 14 countries participated in this Agri Summit where around 1.5 lakh farmers of the state came to learn about new agricultural techniques,” he said. Kovind said that the livelihood of more than 65% of the state’s population was agriculture.
“Regardless of the area in which Haryana ranks 21st in the country, the state is second in terms its contribution (14 crore quintals) to the country’s grain stock,” he said, adding that the state was leading country towards prosperity.
He further said he was happy that farmers in the state were aware of the environmental hazards and thus refrained from burning stubble. “I hope that in future, we will completely eliminate the problem of stubble burning and end the pollution caused due to it,” the President said.
The President said people of Haryana were making changes in the state with government’s help in all fields. Applauding the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, he said, “It is such a happy news that girl sex ratio at birth in Haryana has increased to 914 in 2019 from 830 in 2011.
