Pulwama attack will not impact Kartarpur project
JALANDHAR : Dispelling uncertainty surrounding the construction of Kartarpur Sahib corridor in light of the terror attack in Pulwama, Punjab jails minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Sunday said, the decision to construct the corridor still stood.
“There will be no impact of the attack on the construction of the Kartarpur Corridor as the decision to construct it was taken by the two national governments to respect the sentiments of the entire Sikh community. The construction work will start soon,” said Randhawa, while presiding over a Kabaddi tournament in Rurka Kalan village.

Condemning the attack on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials in Jammu & Kashmir, he said, “The Government of India should give a befitting reply to the perpetrators of this heinous act. It is the high time when the forces behind this shameless act are taught a lesson. This is an attack on the our country’s sovereignty and cannot be tolerated.”
INTER-JAIL SPORTS TOURNAMENTS TO REFORM JAILS
Randhawa announced a ₹10 lakh grant for the Sports Academy.
He said, “In a bid to reform jail inmates through sporting activities, the Punjab government is thinking about starting inter-jail sports tournaments in the state.”
“Sports can act as a catalyst in transforming the personality of an individual,,” he said.
“The state government is exploring the feasibility of organising inter-jail sports tournaments in Punjab to channelise the energy of inmates in a positive direction. These tournaments will help in reforming the inmates on one hand and eliminating drug menace on the other,” he said.
“Under the scheme, NRIs will be asked to adopt jails across the state and promote sports in them,” he said.
