Couplets of Hindi and Urdu poets have caught the fancy of legislator­s of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress in Himachal Pradesh. Journalist-turned-politician Mukesh

■ Agnihotri and opposition leader Mukesh Agnihotri was the first one to recite couplets to criticise the governor’s address during the budget session of the state assembly. Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur had 17 couplets in his three-hour budget speech. And, every second MLA who got the chance to speak came prepared with at least one for the occasion. Former minister Ramesh Dhawala, while participat­ing in the budget discussion, not only recited a few, but also cracked jokes, sending the members into laughter.
