NO END TO SUSPENSE OVER NEW DGP

-

Speculation is rife in Haryana about the appointment of the next director general of police (DGP). The UPSC on Friday evening convened a meeting for shortlisting three IPS officers for being considered for the top post. Since the minutes of the meeting are yet to be finalised and conveyed to the state government, suspense continues over the panel from which the state government would have to make its pick. If the UPSC shortlists officers with two years of service remaining, then the panel of officers become pretty obvious. However, considering the fact that Supreme Court in its directions had laid emphasis on merit as well as seniority in selecting the panel of officers, the service record and range of experience of officers can make the difference.
